New opportunities for patients: cooperation with the St. Marienstift hospital in Magdeburg

We are pleased to announce important news that brings hope and new opportunities for many patients and their families: St. Marienstift Magdeburg Hospital will be a new partner clinic of the Vigdis Thompson Foundation from May 1, 2025. This collaboration marks an important milestone on our mission to provide the best possible medical care for patients with arachnoiditis, Tarlov cysts and chronic back pain due to neuromuscular dysfunction.

Prof. Dr. med. habil. Michael Luchtmann: old and new companion

We are particularly delighted that Prof. Dr. med. habil.
Michael Luchtmann, a long-standing member and not least Chairman of the Board of our Foundation, will be contributing his expertise and experience to the St. Marienstift Magdeburg Hospital from May 2025. Following his successful work as Head Physician at the Clinic for Neurosurgery II at the Heinrich Braun Clinic in Zwickau, he will now establish a Center of Excellence for arachnoiditis and Tarlov cysts in Magdeburg. This center will not only be a hub for specialized treatments, but will also lay the foundation for the continuation of innovative research and therapeutic approaches.

New surgical and therapeutic options

The St. Marienstift Magdeburg hospital offers an excellent environment to further expand the treatment options for our patients. Under the direction of Prof. Dr. med. habil. Michael Luchtmann, an experienced team of doctors will perform operations to treat arachnoiditis, Tarlov cysts and chronic back pain caused by neuromuscular dysfunction. This is not only an expansion of treatment options, but also provides greater planning security for processing consultancy requests. Accordingly, our efforts to acquire new partner clinics have been crowned with success sooner than we had hoped and patients can look forward to greater reliability and prospects.

A Center of Excellence for innovative therapeutic approaches

The establishment of a center of excellence at St. Marienstift Magdeburg Hospital is an important step towards long-term and sustainable patient care. This center will serve as a beacon for the research and treatment of rare diseases and chronic pain conditions of the spine. It offers the opportunity to put the latest scientific findings into practice and develop innovative therapeutic approaches that have the potential to significantly improve the quality of life of those affected. Building on years of cooperation with the Paracelsus Clinic in Zwickau, the latest developments are born under the lucky star of an established and successful collaboration with Prof. Dr. med. habil. Michael Luchtmann and his team of doctors, who will be able to seamlessly build on what they have already achieved at their new location.

Planning security and extended consultation offers

With the new partnership in Magdeburg, we can present patients and their families a confident outlook. In addition to the familiar online consultation hours, it will now also be possible to attend face-to-face patient consultations in Magdeburg. This expansion of our consultation services enables us to respond even better to the individual needs of our patients and find them tailor-made treatment options. Prof. Dr. med. habil. Michael Luchtmann will furthermore remain in the region due to his commitment at the West Saxon University of Applied Sciences in Zwickau and will therefore also be regularly present at the foundation’s office in Werdau.

A view towards the future

We at the Vigdis Thompson Foundation look towards the future with confidence. The cooperation with the St. Marienstift hospital in Magdeburg and the appointment of Prof. Dr. med. habil. Michael Luchtmann are positive signals that reinforce our commitment to improving the quality of life of those affected. We are determined to further expand our network of specialized clinics and to advance research into arachnoiditis, Tarlov cysts and chronic back pain due to neuromuscular dysfunction.
